Aston Martin is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Vanquish with the release of the Vanquish Volante. It represents the fastest, most powerful open-top production vehicle ever from Aston Martin and, along with its coupe stablemate, the fastest, most powerful front-engine production car on sale today. A major accomplishment and bragging rights to hold over countrymates Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
The heart of the new Vanquish Volante is the new 5.2-litre V12 engine that delivers 835PS and 1000nm of torque to bring the Vanquish Volante to a top speed of 214mph.
Aston Martin invested serious time to ensure that the Volante would not add too much weight over the coupe while still designing a seductive that continues Aston Martin’s incredible lineage of open-top motorcars.
This is the perfect way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Vanquish name place as the first Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante 1965 received it first. The motorcar featured design elements of both the convertible DB5 that proceeded it and the DB6 that followed. Only 37 examples were ever built, and it is one of the rarest Aston Martins. It started the long history of some of the world’s most beautiful open-top motor cars and helped define a category that has captured the hearts of enthusiasts for decades.

Mechanics
The highlight of the Vanquish Volante is the new twin-turbocharged, 5.2-litre V12 engine. The very first V12 Aston Martin was a DB7 Vantage that was launched in 2000 in both Coupe and Volante. 25 years later the power has nearly doubled from 429PS to 835PS and maximum torque nearly doubeling as well from 543Nm to 1000Nm.

This iteration of the V12 develops maximum torque at just 2500rpm and maintains that 1000Nm peak all the way from 2500-5000rpm, reaching its top speed of 214mph. Despite increased performance, the total weight of the Vanquish Volante has risen by only 95kg, a small figure compared to most modern-day cars. This raises the power-to-weight ratio from 313hp per tonne to 416hp per tonne, bringing performance to an entirely new realm.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF gearbox located in the rear axel to help with weight distribution. It also incorporates the sam rear E-differential from it’s coupe sibling. This revolutionary E-diff tansitions from fully open to 100% locked in 135 milliseconds. This combined with the latest Electronic Stability Program (ESP) allows the Vanquish Volante to have seriosuly improved driving dynamics, provide greater agility in both low and medium speed corner and offer greater control in oversteer and high-speed lane changes. This is done to essentially ‘shorten’ the wheelbase in tight corner by giving the Vanquish Volante more rotational responses to steering inputs while providing great stability in fast corners.
All of this essentially helps to solidify the Vanquish Volante as the flagship of the Aston Martin brand. Offering both supercar like handling and performance with the ease and elegance of open-top motoring.

Underneath, the Vanquish Volante has a bespoke suspension explicitly tuned for its weight distribution and new Bilstein DTX dampers. These new dampers allow for maximum wheel control for each drive mode and have been tuned extensively so clients can differentiate between the driving modes. GT mode (perhaps our favorite) is meant to evoke the true spirit and essence of a Grand Touring. Providing the long-legged, effortless driving characters that have made GTs such a special part of automotive history. For those looking for a more spirited drive, Sport and Sport+ offer a new dynamic character with progressively more response and body control. Diving into the racing heritage of Aston Martin.
For braking, the Vanquish Volante comes with carbon ceramic brakes fitted as standard. Weighing 27kg less than conventional iron discs, carbon ceramic offers more longevity, increased resistance to fade. It enables torque vectoring where brake balance can be shifted rear work to enhance stability when breaking into a fast corner.
Specifically for the Volante, under the chassis and dynamic steering, a bonded aluminum structure is enhanced to deliver more engaging driving dynamics with an increase in 75% lateral stiffness over the previous generation Volante. This allows the Vanquish Volante to maintain structural performance as close as possible to its coupe body sibling. The two body styles were designed simultaneously to ensure continuity between the siblings.

The majority of Vanquish Volante’s design comes from the coupe that provides a ‘toned, muscular presence, broad stance, and fluid curves.’ One of the most remarkable features is the F1™ inspired thermos louvres in the dramatically sloping bonnet to aid cooling. The wheelbase extends 80mm to accentuate the true iconic GT front-engine, cab-rearward aesthetic Aston Martin helped define. Another dramatic and loved feature is the kicked-up Kamm tail we have seen on many recent Aston Martin designs. The tail is designed to sit above the ‘Shield’, designed to make it appear to be floating above the rear of the car.
The lightweight K-fold roof can be opened in just 14-seconds and closed in 16. The mechanics are operable while driving up to 31mph(50km/h). The roof can be opened or closed by a button in the center console or via the remote key fob.

The Vanquish Volante is designed as a 2-seat configuration that has been elevated with sensory touches to ensure the Vanquish Volante is seen as Aston Martin’s flagship. The Volante incorporates the coupe’s new design language with a lowered center console to provide a feeling of greater width. Aston Martin embraces the future with a digital 10.25” TFT driver display and an integrated 10.25” Pure Black touchscreen. But there are still many functional buttons and controls for the driver with the craftsmanship Aston Martin is known for. A rarity in the recent digifying of modern-day cars.
For audio the Vanquish Volante features a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system to add to the sense of pure, open top driving bliss. Sport Plus Seats are standard, with carbon fiber Performance Seats as an option for those looking to unlock more of the supercar feel than the GT feel.
While every Aston Martin is special, Q will allow clients to customize their vehicles to anyway which they choose. Ensuring a limited run or one off of Aston Martin’s newest flagship.
Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
The new Aston Martin flagship will surely be an absolute wonder to any automotive enthusiast. Offering the quintessential GT ride with the dynamics of a supercar. The new Vanquish Volante will sit among Aston Martin’s historical models as a triumph for generations to come and will draw awes from every generation at the Concours.
As Aston Martin CEO, Adrian Hallmark, says “For 60 years, Aston Martin Volantes have defined the art of elegant, sporting, open-top motoring.
